This is a small free event exclusive to HaCS (Hackathon and Computing Society) and Birmingham City University students. Priority will be given to students on BSc Computer Science. Only 60 places are available. Birmingham City University MicroHack is sponsored by Microsoft and provides an opportunity for students to gain Hackathon experience in a small private environment.
MicroHack will involve students working with the Microsoft cloud hosting Azure. BCU students can access Azure for free using their DreamSpark account. There will be three challenges on the day. The main challenge will be a programming challenge, where students will work in teams to prototype a software solution that uses Azure and present their results. There will also be two smaller challenges that are accessible to non-programmers, including a blogging challenge and a social media challenges. Prizes are available for all three challenges.
Participants will be expected to have previously registered their Azure account and to have familiarised themselves within the environment. This can be done by completing the Microsoft "Hello Cloud" competition, or attending the Azure set up session, which will take place on 2 December 2015. The Hackathon will run from 1pm to 7pm, including the time for presentations, judging and the awarding of prizes. Food will be provided for participants at the end of the event.
Please note that this an internal event. Please do not register if you are not a student at Birmingham City University as we will not be able to provide you with access to the competition.
